2023: Hong Kong is NOT READY

To whom it may concern,
The Olympic Committee of Asia.

1st October 2010

Dear Sir or madam,

I am writing with reference to recent Hong Kong government's motion to apply for the right to host the 2023 Asia Game. In view of Hong Kong's recent governance and financial status, I , as a permanent resident born and raised in Hong Kong, wish to point out that Hong Kong is not ready for the 2023 game. I would also like to request your attention to similar mood in Hong Kong.

First of all, Hong Kong' sporting facilities are gravely under-prepared, and the governance of relevant sporting orgaisations in Hong Kong are far from satisfactory. The recent motion to host the Asia game lists only a gross estimate of the budget to be utilised. No details have been outlined for further revision. We the Hong Kong citizenry have good reasons to anticipate chances of over-budgeting which shall drag on for considerable period, preventing Hong Kong's from fulfilling the commitment to be made.

Drawing on the experience of East Asia Game, we witness executive inefficiencies and lack of commitment on the Hong Kong government's part, nor did the government make a good example to rally Hong Kong's residents to the cause. With these factors, we would like to request your committee to reconsider the application of Hong Kong government and if possible, reject it altogether.

2023: Hong Kong is NOT READY

Regards,
Edward H.Y.Leung
